Writing From Sources Poster
by Smekens Education
Synthesizing ideas across sources requires two separate steps, and this poster accounts for both. STEP 1: Collect relevant textual details on sticky notes while keeping source-specific information organized. STEP 2: Read through all of the details and group similar ones to generate new and bigger thoughts; note these syntheses within the ba-bam bubbles to the right. TIP: Use different colored sticky notes for each source when collecting relevant details in Step 1. This will make it obvious when students are/aren’t supporting their syntheses in Step 2 with details from all of the texts. This oversized poster measures 32” x 27” and can be folded for easy storage.
